OBD-Powered Car Head Up Display with 2-Inch Screen for Windspeed Projection

This dedicated car head up display (HUD) is engineered to enhance driving safety by presenting essential speed data within your natural field of vision. By connecting directly to your vehicle's onboard diagnostics (OBD-II) port, it draws both power and real-time information to project a clear digital readout onto your windscreen. This black ABS unit, measuring 95 x 62 x 27 mm, mounts on your dashboard to help you monitor your speed without glancing down at the instrument cluster, allowing for better concentration on the road ahead during day or night driving.

Features and Construction

This HUD unit focuses on a core set of functionalities centred around data projection and reliable power sourcing. Its design prioritises a straightforward installation and a clear visual output to serve its primary safety function without unnecessary complexity.

Material and Build

The display is housed in a casing made from ABS plastic, a material chosen for its strength and suitability for the interior automotive environment. The black finish offers a low-profile look that blends with most car dashboards. The construction is focused on housing the 2.0-inch projection screen and the necessary electronics in a compact form, resulting in the stated dimensions of 95mm in length, 62mm in width, and 27mm in height. This size is designed to be substantial enough to house the components while minimising the space it occupies on the dashboard.

Size and Practical Fit

With its specific measurements of 95 x 62 x 27 mm, the unit has a defined footprint for dashboard placement. The 27mm profile suggests a relatively low profile to avoid obstructing the driver's view. The 2.0-inch screen size is the active display area from which the speed information is projected. When positioning the unit, these dimensions should be considered to ensure it sits securely and within an area of the dashboard that allows for an unobstructed projection path onto the windscreen, creating a clear virtual image for the driver.

Uses and Placement

The product serves a specific role in vehicle operation, translating data from the car's computer into a driver-focused visual aid. Its use case is defined by its connection method and projection technology, suitable for a wide range of modern vehicles.

Event or Professional Use

For drivers who participate in track days or fuel-efficiency events where maintaining a precise speed is crucial, this HUD provides a constant, heads-up reference. It allows the driver to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes oriented forward while monitoring their speed against a target. The OBD-sourced data ensures the readout is directly from the vehicle's own sensors, providing accurate feedback for such focused driving scenarios without the distraction of looking away from the track or road.

Everyday Home Use

In daily commuting and family journeys, the HUD addresses a common safety concern: distracted driving caused by frequently checking the speedometer. By projecting speed data onto the windscreen, it helps drivers stay within legal limits and maintain awareness more easily, especially on unfamiliar roads or in variable speed zones. The simple OBD connection means it can be installed in minutes in most modern cars and used reliably trip after trip, integrating into the routine of checking mirrors and signals as part of the driving process.

Benefits and Buying Value

The value of this product lies in its dedicated function and the practical safety benefit it aims to provide. It offers a focused technological solution for a specific aspect of driving ergonomics.

Reuse and Low Maintenance

The unit is designed for repeated use across multiple journeys in the same vehicle. Its OBD power supply means there are no batteries to replace and no separate charging required; it operates whenever the vehicle's ignition is on. The ABS plastic construction is resilient to typical interior temperature fluctuations and sun exposure, suggesting a design intended for long-term installation. Maintenance is minimal, primarily involving keeping the lens and screen clean for a clear projection.

Why Choose This Product

This HUD is a suitable choice for drivers seeking a dedicated, single-purpose device to promote safer driving habits through heads-up information display. Its value proposition is clear: it focuses on delivering accurate speed data from the vehicle's own systems via a reliable OBD connection, housed in a compact, dashboard-mounted unit. It provides an alternative to built-in factory HUD systems or more complex multi-function devices, offering a straightforward solution for the specific task of keeping speed visible without looking down.
